The Polygon Gallery is committed to creating a platform for emerging BC artists through programs like Chester Fields, a youth photography program for Lower Mainland secondary students.

“I remember the exact moment I learned about Chester Fields. I was sitting in my grade 10 media arts classroom, having only taken up photography a few months prior…I entered my photograph, and felt so validated and thrilled when I saw my name on the shortlist.

My acceptance to the BFA program at Ryerson University was possible thanks to what I had learned from Chester Fields. The four competitions I entered taught me to be a conceptual thinker, how to write about my art, and gave me the confidence to understand that my work had value.”

—Alia Youssef, former Chester Fields finalist and award-winning photographer
