Mona Kuhn: Artist Talk And Book Signing

Admission is by donation.

Related exhibition: A Handful Of Dust

Internationally known, LA-based artist Mona Kuhn is best known for her large-scale, atmospheric photographs of the human form. In this talk, Kuhn discusses her work included in The Polygon Gallery's a Handful of Dust exhibition, as well as her latest artist book She Disappeared into Complete Silence (Steidl, 2019). Photographed at a golden modernist structure on the edge of Joshua Tree National Park, the series carefully balances architectural lines, light reflections, and a single figure against the backdrop of the Californian desert.

Mona Kuhn (b. 1969, São Paulo, Brazil) earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before studying at the San Francisco Art Institute.  She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Six monographs of Kuhn’s work have been published with Steidl, and her latest publication, Bushes and Succulents (Stanley Barker Editions), will debut at Jeu de Paume in Paris, France. Her photographs have been exhibited at the Louvre Museum, Paris; Whitechapel Gallery, London; and the Leopold Museum, Vienna, and are held in major collections worldwide.

Kuhn’s talk will be followed by a book signing with the artist.

This event is organized in partnership with the 2019 Capture Photography Festival.
