As we plan for re-opening, the Gallery is facing an extraordinary financial challenge

Since closing the Gallery in March, The Polygon estimates a revenue loss of $765,000 through the summer from critical sources such as venue rentals, retail sales, and donations.

To reduce expenses, administrative staff have taken a collective salary reduction and many summer programming expenses have been eliminated. However, the indefinite postponement of our spring fundraising auction and the cancellation of all summer 2020 weddings and venue rentals means the loss in revenue far exceeds the reduction in expenses.

Despite this challenge, we continue to work hard to engage audiences of all ages because arts and cultural experiences are especially important right now, when health and mental wellness are so essential. We firmly believe that art has the power to:

Inspire us during challenging times
Bring us together, even in isolation
Offer moments of respite from the everyday

The Polygon has always prioritized access to art for all

Admission-by-donation; free programs for students, youth, and emerging artists; multilingual visits for new Canadians; and other initiatives make art experiences at The Polygon widely accessible. We continue to provide a high level of accessibility during our closure through the Gallery’s expanded digital presence—The Polygon Podcast, sharing art and exhibitions online, and kids programming offered weekly to support families at home.

Your gift will have an immediate and far-reaching impact, supporting digital art experiences during our closure and our work towards the Gallery re-opening.

If you are in a position to extend your generosity to the Gallery, we’d be very grateful for your support at this critical time.

Thank you for being such an important a part of our community and for your kind consideration.
