The Polygon’s expansive programming has featured acclaimed Vancouver photographers, world‐renowned as well as emerging artists, and innovative exhibitions of historic and vernacular photography.

Job Type: Regular Part-Time (min. 20 hours weekly)

Renumeration: $30 – $32.85 hourly, commensurate with experience, plus benefits.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating with artists, institutions, and collectors to arrange incoming and outgoing loans for exhibitions
  • Managing logistics of local, national, and international shipments of artworks
  • Completing loan agreements, customs forms, waybills, shipping labels, etc.
  • Coordinating with a team of art handlers to safely pack/unpack crates
  • Documenting and condition reporting incoming and outgoing artworks
  • Monitoring and maintaining mounted exhibitions, the gallery’s archival records, and a small rotating inventory of artworks in storage
  • Office management duties related to onboarding staff, ordering office supplies, maintaining office equipment, phones, staff lists, etc.

Qualifications:

  • A thorough understanding of best practices for the care, handling, and transport of art objects
  • Patience, maturity, and a keen eye for detail
  • A strong understanding of shipping artworks internationally (customs paperwork, brokerage, insurance coverage, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Mac OS
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • The ability to meet deadlines, maintain priorities, and adjust as shifting priorities and timelines arise
  • A willingness and enthusiasm to adapt within a dynamic work environment
  • Previous experience working in a museum, art gallery or cultural setting
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s license is an asset

JOB PARTICULARS

The Registrar will typically work 20 hours a week. Due to the demands of exhibition timelines, it may be necessary to work additional days or overtime during exhibition changeover periods.

The Polygon provides sufficient flexibility in work arrangements to ensure that candidates can accomplish their work while maintaining healthy lives with personal and family obligations and passions outside of their careers.
