Ward 81: Mary Ellen Mark

Curated by: Karen Love

Mary Ellen Mark is an internationally-acclaimed photojournalist whose work has been exhibited and published widely. Her monograph books include Passport, Ward 81, Falkland Road, Mother Teresa's Missions of Charity in Calcutta, and Streetwise.

The exhibition Ward 81 offers a glimpse into the lives of women in a locked ward of the Oregon State Mental Hospital, where Mark spent over a month. The work is a moving, sometimes disturbing record of institutionalized people.
