Stories From My Auntie

In honour of the 100th anniversary of Squamish Nation’s Amalgamation Day, The Polygon Gallery’s very own Joelle Johnston invites you to hear stories from her auntie Wendy Charbonneau, Squamish elder, storyteller, singer, composer and knowledge keeper.

RSVPs are helpful
Admission is by donation

Elder Wendy Charbonneau will be explaining the history of the different Squamish villages and North Vancouver. She is a direct descendant of Chief George Capilano, and will be sharing stories about important figures within the Squamish Nation. Along with the storytelling, Wendy will be sharing traditional songs that have been passed down from the generations before. Amalgamation Day is a Squamish holiday that celebrates the founding of the Squamish Nation. The Polygon Gallery is located on the unceded village site of Esl7han and has been working to include and learn more about the history and people of this land. Please join us in celebrating Amalgamation Day at the Gallery.

About Amalgamation Day
July 23, 2023 marks the 100th year anniversary of 16 Squamish villages amalgamated to form one nation. The Amalgamation Declaration seeks to preserve and protect the lands of the Squamish people for future generations to come.
