Fall Exhibitions: Public Opening

Free parking will be available after 6pm at the ICBC parkade, adjacent to Lonsdale Quay Market.

The Polygon is pleased to announce three new exhibitions for the fall 2018 season.

You are invited to join us for the opening reception, in celebration of The Polygon Gallery's one year anniversary.

New exhibitions, on view November 2, 2018 - January 13, 2019, include:

Looking at Persepolis: The Camera in Iran, 1850-1930

Looking at Persepolis considers the role of the camera in Iran, focusing on early photography of from the latter 19th and early 20th centuries. These rare photographs reveal how images of ancient Persia were used to construct the identity for a rapidly modernising nation. Guest curated by Pantea Haghighi.

This presentation is part of The Polygon Gallery’s new exhibition series New Perspectives: revealing diverse perspectives, untold stories, and new voices in visual art.

Batia Suter: Parallel Encyclopedia Extended

The first North American solo exhibition by Swiss artist Batia Suter, Parallel Encyclopedia Extended presents a dramatic installation of photographic reproductions sourced from thousands of books. Drawn from her recent artist book Parallel Encyclopedia #2, the exhibition highlights such salient issues in contemporary photography as the proliferation of digital images, and includes a new, large-scale mural for The Polygon Gallery.

Hannah Rickards: One can make out the surface only by placing any dark-coloured object on the ground

Hannah Rickards, an interdisciplinary artist from London, UK, now based in Vancouver, premieres a meditative new video installation of performers interacting with early photographic materials from scientific documents. The exhibition includes a display of artefacts and visual documents that depict temporality and the weather that relates to the artist’s interest in the earth sciences.
