Motion And Document - Sequence And Time: Eadweard Muybridge And Contemporary American Photography

Curated by: James Sheldon

Eadweard Muybridge was the first to demonstrate motion pictures by stopping motion and putting it back together; his work has remained particularly relevant to artists grappling with the idea of human perception.  The contemporary artists in the exhibition explore and expand on Muybridge's work. An interactive video disc will allow visitors to explore Muybridge's sense of time, sequence and patterning: the poetry of the kinetic.

Organized and circulated by The Addison Gallery of American Art, Phillips Academy, Andover, Ma. Supported in Vancouver by Hemlock Printers and Kodak Canada Inc. and Photomotion artists.
