House Of R3Nc0Ng: Queer Worldbuilding Amidst The Fire
Join us for an artist talk with Indonesian filmmaker, programmer, and researcher Rizky Rahad who explores queer cinema as ‘rebellious worldmaking’, with a very special screening of his film, House of R3nc0ng (2022), followed by a talkback moderated by Love Intersections.
In House of R3nc0ng, seven survivors of anti-trans police violence in Indonesia escape state surveillance and dive into their fantasy to reclaim their image. This film imagines what queer liberation looks like beyond the limits of Western visibility politics.
Doors at 6:30pm
Artist talk + film screening at 7:00pm
RSVPs are helpful
Rizky’s publication, QUEERS SHOOT BACK! and QAMERAD merchandise will be available for purchase on site. All proceeds will go directly towards supporting Rizky’s work, sustaining QAMERAD’s collective practice, and a mutual aid fund for the community featured in the film, whose members have been affected by state violence in Indonesia.
Curated by Alger Ji-Liang and co-presented by Chapel Sound Art Foundation and Love Intersections.
About the Artists
Rizky Rahad (he/him) is an Indonesian filmmaker, programmer, and researcher exploring queer cinema as ‘rebellious worldmaking’. Currently co-running cinema collective QAMERAD in Bali, Rizky’s latest film House of R3nc0ng chronicles survivors of anti-trans violence resisting surveillance, while his book QUEERS SHOOT BACK! imagines a liberatory queer cinema beyond neoliberal visibility politics. Rizky is a recipient of the 2026 Bertha Artivism Awards, 2025 Flaherty Fellowship, and 2024 British Council’s Connection Through Culture grant.
QAMERAD is a Bali-based queer cinema collective organising guerrilla screenings and community-led workshops. Viewing cinema as a tool for commoning, QAMERAD gathers communities to redistribute resources and imagine alternatives under regimes of surveillance and control, privileging opacity and radical aesthetics as strategies for collective survival and queer world-building.
Love Intersections is a media arts collective made up of queer artists of colour dedicated to using collaborative art-making and relational storytelling to address systemic racism in our communities. We produce intersectional and intergenerational stories from underrepresented communities of colour – centering the invisible, the spiritual, the metaphysical and the imaginary. We believe in deep and meaningful relationships, that intersectionality is a verb and a call to action, that we must cultivate social trust through collective care and community responsibility. Our desire is to provoke (he)artful social change through the lens of love.
Alger Ji-Liang 梁家傑 (he/him) is an emerging visual artist and curator based in Vancouver on the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tseil-Waututh) Nations. His lens-based practice explores the interrelations of kinship, love, and grief through image-making, documentation, and archival investigation. Alger is a screening committee member of the Vancouver Queer Film Festival, a VIFF Catalyst alum, and was the former curator of the Mount Pleasant Community Art Screen, a public billboard dedicated to showcasing local and international moving image works.
