About Phen Ray
Phen Ray (Stephen Murray) is a musician and producer born and raised in Barbados who lives and works in Vancouver, BC. With a sound that is born out of an interest in music from the fringes of experimentation, Phen Ray fuses the most sincere elements of what draws us to music and the most basic intonations that revive the spirit of musical innovation. Phey Ray's compositions generate overtones more compelling to the listener than the sum of their parts. This is what makes his music so powerful, whether it's his work with singer-songwriters Kelis and Witch Prophet, Toronto-based avant-garde band LAL, Sitka-based artist Nicholas Galanin (aka Indian Agent), or his experimental noise band Cock Fang. Phen Ray is currently scoring the forthcoming CBC series Black Life: A Canadian History.
