The Polygon Gallery is proud to be hosting the regular program – Kids First Saturdays. Join us on the first Saturday of every month for hands-on creative activities. Visit the Gallery, explore the artworks, and participate in activities that lead to deeper engagement with art and creativity.
As a regular Kids First visitor, you will always be greeted with new and exciting methods of creative play, encouraging experimentation with various media and materials.
Saturday, July 6, 11am – 3pm
In celebration the opening of The Clock by Christian Marclay, visitors of all ages will learn how to create makeshift time pieces. Options will be provided for a variety of ages and abilities. Time to get busy!
Ages 5 and under will make visual half-day timekeepers to illustrate the differences between night and day.
Ages 6 – 12 can discover how to transform recycled plastic bottles into a clepsydra, which are ancient water clocks.
More practiced children and adults can build their very own sundial using our carefully measured cardboard examples.
(All activities are open to everyone; age groups are only suggested)
Saturday, August 3, 11am – 3pm
Find inspiration from the many furry friends that populate the Dog Days exhibition, or from some of our four-legged gallery goers.
By using cut-out fun foam, a variety of coloured pom-poms and pipe cleaners, and googly eyes, visitors of all ages will be able to design their own dog-shaped fridge magnet to take home (no leashes required).
Saturday, September 7, 11am – 3pm
Pose, click, cut and paste. The work of Vancouver-born Sara Cwynar combines elements of high-end fashion shoots with old-school collage techniques to create a contemporary take on portrait photography. Designed for visitors both young and old, our project will begin with a coloured photo booth opportunity to pose for the camera. This image will then be printed out on a sheet of 8.5” x 11” paper, which can be cut, pleated, folded or combined with a selection of art and fashion images taken from magazine sources.
Mark your 2019 calendar for the first Saturday of each month!
Good to know
Kids 12 and under are required to bring a parent or caretaker to attend the program.
Activities are geared towards ages 6-12, however all are welcome to join and participate.
