The Polygon Gallery is excited to host Together and Apart, a discussion about photography with Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb on Saturday, May 19, organised in collaboration with FotoFilmic. A member of the internationally renowned photography cooperative Magnum Photos, Webb's photographs have been printed in such magazines and periodicals as TIME and National Geographic. Between the two of them, Webb and Norris Webb have published 18 books and have exhibited internationally.
The couple will talk about their first collaborative book, Violet Isle: A Duet of Photographs from Cuba (2009), a long-out-of-print publication that has recently been released as a second edition. They will discuss the process of working together and apart, and will also profile a selection of photographs from their monographs, including Alex’s book La Calle: Photographs from Mexico (2016), and Rebecca’s third book, My Dakota (2012), which interweaves her spare text with lyrical photographs from her home state of South Dakota. A book signing will follow.
The event is organized as part of FotoFilmic's two-day workshop, Finding Your Vision, on Bowen Island, BC from May 19-20.
“I only know how to approach a place by walking, for what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heart of the known awaits just around the corner.” — Alex Webb
